Thinking about purchasing vinyl fencing? If you’re hiring a contractor, be sure to ask these critical questions:

Do they drill post holes and cement in the vinyl post or use a pipe and collar system where a 1-7/8” or 2-3/8” pipe is driven into the ground?

Although the pipe and collar system is a lot less labour intensive the collars will not stand up to our Canadian climate. Although your fence will not fall over once the collars break it will not be straight and true anymore

Do they use metal stiffeners in gate post and bottom rails?

If metal stiffeners are not used, your gate post will bend, and the bottom rails will sag creating a smiling effect on the bottom of your fence.

Is a U channel used on both sides of the post?

If a U channel is not used on both sides the side without the U channel will generally have a little gape over time.
